Hatha Yoga Classes in Markham

Yoga is a beautiful practice that goes beyond just physical poses

Yoga is a beautiful practice that goes beyond just physical poses.

It's a wholistic approach to well-being that recognizes the deep connection between our breath and our mental state.

According to Yogic science,  learning to control our breath through specific techniques called pranayama can help settle our minds and find greater clarity. When our minds are more peaceful and organized, it becomes easier to navigate the challenges of daily life with a sense of balance and ease.

Return to your centered self through the ancient wisdom of classical hatha yoga, offered online or in person at my judgment-free Markham Yoga studio.

Step onto your mat & into a sacred space where breath, movement, & mind intertwine to bring a great sense of inner balance.

Through gentle guidance and heartfelt support, I'll help you cultivate a practice that nourishes your mind, body, and energy. Expect to challenge yourself, find joy in the journey, and leave each program feeling grounded, refreshed, and deeply at peace.

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India and serves as the foundation for many of the yoga styles we see today. The word "ha" means sun, and "ta" means moon, so "Hatha Yoga" is all about balancing the masculine and feminine energies within you.  ‘Hata’ also means being determined – having the strength to face whatever life throws your way without giving up.

Hatha Yoga isn't just a workout; it's a deep science that combines physical poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana). It's based on a profound understanding of how the body works. By practicing Hatha Yoga regularly, you can actually change the way you think, feel, and experience the world around you.

In each class, you will move through a thoughtful sequence of poses designed to leave you feeling renewed in body, mind, and spirit. Unlike any other fast-paced yoga styles, Classical Hatha yoga practices focus on alignment and breath to help the body feel at ease.

Some Friendly Studio Etiquette

Most of us have good intentions, but we tend to shove the etiquette under the rug for convenience. Resist the urge! Remember, Yoga is not just about exercising; it is the discipline and commitment to better yourself every day.

So here are some basic rules to follow in the yoga studio:

  1. Always arrive on time

  2. Bring your mat and a cushion

  3. Maintain empty stomach conditions (see FAQ below for more details)

  4. Go easy on perfumes

  5. Leave your shoes in the foyer

  6. Mind personal hygiene

  7. Above all, be respectful to others

Heartfelt appreciation from my students...

"Bavani's Surya Kriya course was truly transformative. Her nurturing presence and reassuring words, “You’ll learn, and it will get easier,” echoed in my mind, guiding me throughout the practice. Her approach guided me through initial challenges until the practice was beautifully integrated into my life. It now brings incredible balance, joy, and positive shifts. She didn’t just teach me a practice; she fundamentally changed how I experience life. Bavani created a warm, encouraging space that forever enriched how I experience each day with purpose. I am deeply grateful for the journey Bavani guided me on."
